Your user account is your identity on your GitHub Enterprise Server instance. Your user account can be a member of any number of organizations.

GitHub Desktop extends and simplifies your Git and GitHub workflow using a visual interface.

While you can grant read/write access to collaborators on a personal repository, members of an organization can have more granular access permissions for the organization's repositories.
