Disabling projects in a repository

Repository administrators can turn off projects and projects (classic) for a repository if you or your team choose not to use projects.

Disabling projects in a repository

When you disable projects in a repository, linked projects will no longer be available in the repository's Projects tab. Linked projects will remain accessible at an organization or user level.

  1. On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository.

  2. Under your repository name, click Settings. If you cannot see the "Settings" tab, select the dropdown menu, then click Settings.

  3. Under "Features," unselect the Projects checkbox.

Disabling projects (classic) in a repository

When you disable projects (classic) in a repository, existing projects (classic) are inaccessible at their previous URLs. If you decide to re-enable projects (classic), any projects (classic) that were previously added will be available.

After you disable projects (classic), you will no longer see project (classic) information in timelines or audit logs.

You can only create new projects (classic) in a repository if one or more projects (classic) already exist in the repository. If the repository has no projects (classic), this option will not be available.

  1. On GitHub.com, navigate to the main page of the repository.

  2. Under your repository name, click Settings. If you cannot see the "Settings" tab, select the dropdown menu, then click Settings.

  3. Under "Features," deselect the Projects (classic) checkbox.
