Managing your GitHub Copilot Business subscription

Set up GitHub Copilot Business for your organization account and manage your subscription.

Who can use this feature?

GitHub Copilot can be managed through personal accounts with GitHub Copilot Individual or through organization accounts with GitHub Copilot Business.

Note: If you are a member of your organization, and you want to set up a GitHub Copilot Business subscription, you will need to contact your organization administrator.

About managing your GitHub Copilot Business subscription

This article applies to setting up and managing a GitHub Copilot subscription for your organization account. If you want to set up GitHub Copilot for your personal account, see "Managing your GitHub Copilot Individual subscription." If you want to benefit from GitHub Copilot features in, you can set up a subscription to GitHub Copilot Enterprise. The GitHub Copilot Business subscription for organizations and enterprises is available on a monthly cycle. For more general information about billing for GitHub Copilot Business, see "About billing for GitHub Copilot."

Setting up a Copilot Business subscription for your organization

Before you can start using GitHub Copilot in your organization account, you will need to set up a subscription.

  1. Go to the GitHub Copilot Business sign up page.

  2. Select an organization for which you want to purchase GitHub Copilot and click Continue.

  3. Follow the steps to confirm your payment details, then click Save.

    If you don't have a payment method on file, you'll be prompted to add one.

  4. In the "Public code suggestions" dropdown, select Allow or Block to allow or block suggestions that match public code, and click Save and continue. You can change these preferences later by returning to your GitHub Copilot settings.

  5. Either grant access to GitHub Copilot for all current and future users in your organization, or for specific users in your organization.

    • If you selected Allow for all members, click Confirm in the "Confirm seat assignment" dialog to confirm that you want to enable GitHub Copilot for all current and future users in your organization.
    • If you selected Selected teams/users, you can choose Add people or Add team.
      • If you selected Add people, in the "Enable GitHub Copilot access for selected members of ORGANIZATION" dialog, you can either search for individual members, or you can add members in bulk by uploading a CSV file.
      • If you selected Add team, in the "Enable GitHub Copilot access for selected teams of ORGANIZATION" dialog, start typing the team name in the search bar, select the team you want to add and click Add team(s) to access list.
  6. To finish setting up your GitHub Copilot Business subscription, click Save and finish. Organization members will receive an email with instructions on how to start using GitHub Copilot.

Modifying your Copilot Business subscription

You can configure GitHub Copilot in your organization, including granting and revoking access to individuals and teams, and determining whether to block suggestions that match public code. For more information, see "Copilot Business."

Canceling your Copilot Business subscription

To cancel your Copilot Business subscription for your organization account, you need to remove all assigned GitHub Copilot seats.

  1. In the upper-right corner of GitHub, select your profile photo, then click Your organizations.

  2. Next to the organization, click Settings.

  3. In the "Code planning, and automation" section of the sidebar, click Copilot, and then click Access.

  4. Under "Copilot Business is active in your organization," to revoke GitHub Copilot access for all users in your organization, select Disabled.

  5. In the "Remove Copilot access" dialog, click Confirm and remove seats.
