A proxy server provides an additional level of security for your instance. Any outbound messages sent by GitHub Enterprise—such as outgoing webhooks, uploading bundles, or fetching legacy avatars—are first sent through the proxy server, unless the destination host is added as an HTTP proxy exclusion.

  1. In the upper-right corner of any page, click . Rocketship icon for accessing site admin settings

  2. In the left sidebar, click Management Console. Management Console tab in the left sidebar

  3. At the top of the Management Console, click Settings. Settings tab

  4. In the left sidebar, click Privacy. Privacy sidebar

  5. Under HTTP Proxy settings, type the URL of your proxy server. This should be the protocol, domain or IP address, and port number, such as http://127.0.0.1:8123. HTTP Proxy server field
