Managing your GitHub Copilot Enterprise subscription

Set up GitHub Copilot Enterprise for your enterprise account and manage your subscription.

Who can use this feature?

Enterprise owners can set up and manage a subscription for GitHub Copilot Enterprise.

GitHub Copilot can be managed through personal accounts with GitHub Copilot Individual, through organization or enterprise accounts with GitHub Copilot Business, or through enterprise accounts with GitHub Copilot Enterprise.

About managing your GitHub Copilot Enterprise subscription

To allow members to benefit from GitHub Copilot features on their local machine and on GitHub.com, you can set up a subscription to GitHub Copilot Enterprise for an enterprise on GitHub Enterprise Cloud. When you set up a subscription, you'll be able to enable Copilot for organizations in your enterprise. Organization owners can then grant access to organization members.

The GitHub Copilot Enterprise subscription for organizations and enterprises is available on a monthly cycle. For more general information about billing for GitHub Copilot Enterprise, see "About billing for GitHub Copilot."

Setting up a Copilot Enterprise subscription for the first time

To set up a Copilot Enterprise subscription, you need an enterprise account on GitHub Enterprise Cloud. For more information, see "Creating an enterprise account."

Note: If you're under a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement, you need to connect your Azure subscription ID to your enterprise account to enable and pay for GitHub Copilot. For more information, see "Connecting an Azure subscription."

  1. Ensure you are signed in as an enterprise owner on GitHub.com.
  2. Go to the Copilot plans page.
  3. Under "Copilot Enterprise", click Buy now.
  4. Follow the steps to sign up and enable Copilot for organizations in your enterprise.

Once you have enabled Copilot for an organization, an organization owner can grant access to members. For more information, see "Managing access for Copilot in your organization."

Upgrading to a Copilot Enterprise subscription

If your enterprise already has a Copilot Business subscription, you can upgrade to a Copilot Enterprise subscription. When you upgrade, all users with a Copilot Business seat will be upgraded to Copilot Enterprise. Your enterprise will be charged pro rata for these seats for the rest of the billing cycle.

  1. In the top-right corner of GitHub.com, click your profile photo, then click Your enterprises.

  2. In the list of enterprises, click the enterprise you want to view.

  3. In the enterprise account sidebar, click Policies.

  4. Under " Policies", click Copilot.

  5. In the "Copilot Business is active in your enterprise" section, click Purchase Copilot Enterprise.

  6. In the dialog, click Continue to billing summary.

  7. Review your updated billing summary, then click Enable plan.

Modifying your Copilot Enterprise subscription

You can set policies for the use of GitHub Copilot in your enterprise, and select which organizations can add members to your GitHub Copilot subscription. For more information, see "Enforcing policies for GitHub Copilot in your enterprise."

Downgrading your Copilot Enterprise subscription

To downgrade from a Copilot Enterprise subscription to a Copilot Business subscription, you must contact GitHub Billing Support.

Canceling your Copilot Enterprise subscription

To cancel your GitHub Copilot subscription for your enterprise account, you need to disable GitHub Copilot for all organizations in your enterprise.

  1. In the top-right corner of GitHub.com, click your profile photo, then click Your enterprises.

  2. In the list of enterprises, click the enterprise you want to view.

  3. In the enterprise account sidebar, click Policies.

  4. Under " Policies", click Copilot.

  5. In the "Copilot is active in your enterprise" section, select the dropdown menu, then click Disabled.
